Changes are taking place at Lake Arrowhead!

As many of you know, we are currently constructing a new Children's Activity Pool as well as an Outdoor Pavilion in the Recreation Field at Lake Arrowhead Campground.

Both the pool and pavilion should be ready for use for Memorial Day Weekend, 2005.

As of May 21, 2005, here's the progress:

04-04-05

New activity added for "Wizard's Weekend."  In addition to our other posted activities, we've added a seminar in "Magical Campfire Cooking."  Ever made muffins over the fire in orange peels?  How about hamburgers in onions or peppers?  Omelets in a bag, or eggs and bacon in paper lunch sack? This seminar is fun with food!  It covers different, inventive and sometimes crazy ways to cook great meals while camping.  We will cover such things like baking in box ovens, cooking over an open fire, and utensil-less cooking.  How about pudding filled cakes baked on a stick, or boiling eggs in Styrofoam cups?  You don' want to miss out on this seminar!

August 13-15 was Lake Arrowhead Campground's Corn Boil Weekend.

Thanks to Carissa for the pics!

We cooked over 1/2 TON of FREE corn this weekend!

The corn was the freshest possible --> Our staff actually drove a pickup truck along side the corn picker in the field and it harvested the corn directly into the truck bed!

Staff member Rob can attest to the quality.
After the corn it was time for some fun.

Here's the children's Balloon Stomp.

Evasive maneuvers!!

You need to stomp everyone else's balloon while keeping yours intact.

Here's our Corn Search.

You'd be amazed at how difficult it is to locate and remove the quarters we put in there!

Some also accepted the challenge of our Board Ski Races.

It's a fairly tricky competition.

After the board-skiing it was time for our infamous Egg-Toss.

First for the kids...

And then the adults.

There are always quite a few contestants!!

Now it's time for a Pie-Eating Competition.

(Voluntary entry, of course )

After the pies some cleaning is probably in order...

So we bust out the Slip-N-Slide once again!!!

Sometimes Dad's need to have fun too!

All clean!

9-01-04

July 23-25 was Lake Arrowhead Campground's Country Western Weekend.

Thanks to Chase for contributing some of the pics!

Activities for the kids included "Horse" Racing...

Watch out for the Cactus!
... and Fort Building.
We also held a "Jail and Bail" and raised money for The American Heart Association.

Some people get a little more into the weekend than others!

The two in cowboy hats are (Left to Right) Dale and Marie, the Judge and Sheriff of Jail and Bail, respectively.
The campground was full of all sorts of "bandits" this weekend.

These guys even brought their own Covered Wagon!

Nice hat, Bob.

8-09-04

July 9-11 was Lake Arrowhead Campground's Odd-Ball Olympics weekend.  Events included Synchronized Swimming, The Amazing Marble Race, Bandanna Golf Relay, and Lake Arrowhead Burrito Building.

Thanks to Tom for the pics!

Synchronized Swimming

Each team is given a couple of minutes to prepare their performance...

...and then the perform to music.

The Amazing Marble Race

Each team is given a packet of materials to work with...

And they try to build a "track" to make the marble travel as far as possible.

Then we measure.

Bandanna Golf Relay

Object is to hit the ball into the "hole."

This was easier for some than others...

Then we Build Burritos!

Don't worry, you don't have to eat them!

Burrito building is also a relay.

07-13-04

Lake Arrowhead Campground celebrated Independence Day the weekend of 7-02 to 7-05.  Here are some of our campers (and staff) getting in the spirit...

The first thing we needed to do was decorate our Camp-store and Office.

Boy did they do a good job!

Saturday's Craft was tye-dying patriotic T-Shirts.

You could bring your own shirt or buy one from us.

She was really proud of hers.

Staff member Tom prepares the red dye.

That afternoon it was time for our 4th of July Face-painting, Bike-decorating, and Parade.

We provide the materials and the kids provide the imagination.

You never can have too many flags!

Love the hats!

(Staff members left to right:   Tom, Bob, Rachel)

Once all is decorated, it's time for the 4th of July Parade!

Those who didn't want to walk could decorate their golf carts...

... or they could ride on one of our trucks!
After the parade it was time for our water games...

... and world-famous, 40ft-long slip-n-slide!

The adults and staff hold up the sides,...

... the kids line up about 50ft away to get a big running start...

... and away they go!

Some of the bigger kids (and adults) can make it all 40ft!

Don't worry, the soap you see is tear-free baby shampoo.  Works great to put the "slip" in slip-n-slide, and doesn't hurt your eyes!

06-29-04       (photos taken between 6-13-04 and 6-28-04)

With much more pleasant weather lately, Lake Arrowhead Campground is now looking dry and green once again.  Here are some pictures of our campground and our campers from the past couple weeks.

Thanks to Carissa for the "chocolate pictures!"

The pool is 80 degrees and ready for swimming!

June 18-20 was Father's Day Weekend.

Staff members Bob and Jess are conducting frog races!

Gift certificates and prizes were given to the winners.

June 25-27 was our Death by Chocolate weekend.

These two are Chocolate Finger Painting with pudding.  (You can even paint your friends! )

You can make your painting and eat it too!

We have a hose available for afterward.

Time for our staff members to bravely demonstrate the chocolate-passing technique.

Left-to-right:  Rachel, Tom, Emily, Jess

Now the kids get their chance.

Now for the perilous Chocolate Toss.

(Insert scary music here )

The kids have to catch the chocolate in cups attached to their heads.

Yeah, I'm sure you saw this coming.

I don't see much chocolate in her cup...

Once you're done with the toss, yet another opportunity to enjoy the benefits of your hard work.
For those who weren't into eating (or wearing) chocolate, we had a few other activities available.

Such as sand-volleyball.

Some of them rented our 3-wheeled Fun Cycles...

... or hung out in the playground...

... others did some fishing...

... or played catch...
... and you can always just sit back and enjoy our beautiful campsites...

... or our picturesque Lake Arrowhead.
